Each year Firewise certification provides our community with tangible benefits:

  • Increased awareness of wildfire impact on our community
  • Reduction of combustible fuels in Dollar Point
  • Community engagement and education on fire safety
  • Preparation for wildfire events
  • Fire insurance discount (select carriers recognize certification)

Firewise USA certification requires us to provide information on the following:

  • Vegetation removal events and volume metrics
  • Risk reduction investment(volunteer hours and expense costs) to reduce fire fuel and hazards

We Need Your Participation with Metrics
The Firewise committee tracks vegetation removal events (Dumpster Days) and the associated volume removed. However, we need your help with metrics on direct costs paid and any volunteer hours invested in reducing fire risk. Such items would include vegetation/needle/pinecone removal costs, dumpster days, hydrant clearing/painting, shake roof replacement, home hardening against wildfires and association property clean-up. Firewise USA uses this data to measure community involvement and community ranking for grant money via NTFPD for fire safety programs. For example, grant funding this year is helping to reduce the DPA cost for dumpster days. Yes, this means you can help us find more funds to improve our fire safety.

Need your help with the following information:
As you prepare for Dumpster Days or conduct your personal fire risk reduction activities, please track the hours volunteered and/or cost paid to contractors.  Use the form on the right to provide the necessary information to the Firewise committee.

  • Volunteer hours for defensible space clearance and hauling
  • $ spent and/or person hours spent on yard clean-up for dumpster day disposal
  • $ spent and/or person hours spent haul material to dumpsters, include time waiting in line to empty car/truck/trailer
  • $ spent on home hardening such as shake roof replacement, replacement of vent screens, installation of metal siding, etc.

Thank you in advance for supporting our Firewise annual certification.

Stay safe and well.
